What's Subnet?

A subnetwork or subnet is a logical subdivision of an IP network. The practice of dividing a network into two or more networks is called subnetting. Computers that belong to a subnet are addressed with an identical most-significant bit-group in their IP addresses. You can manage client computers under different subnets within the same LAN via AOMEI Centralized Backupper. For example, your server with AOMEI Centralized Backupper is under 192.168.0.1, and you can manage computers within 192.168.x.x~192.168.x.x.

How to add IP Segments?

For managing client computers under different subnets within the same LAN, please refer to the following steps:

Step1: Download and install AOMEI Backupper client software on computers you want to manage manually.

Step2: Run AOMEI Centralized Backupper, click Settings---IP Segments and select the ''Enable IP Segments Management'' button and then add legal IP address/subnet IP you want to manage, for example, 192.168.1.0/24. After that, it will scan all computers that have already installed client software under the IP Segment and list them under Computers---Uncontrolled Computer automatically.

Step3: Select client computers listed under Computers---Uncontrolled Computer to obtain control permissions from Request Control and then create the backup for them.

Notes:

  • You can input IP segments in a batch via importing a text file. Please create a text file first and input IP segments to text: each line with one IP segment.

  • You can also add computers to different subnets within the same LAN via Remote Client Installation and there are two solutions available. Solution one: Let software detect all computers available within the same LAN including different subnets automatically but it would take much time. Solution two: Add computers manually by entering the specific IP address of the client computer through Remote Client Installation---Add Computers
