Method 1. Restore PC from Windows 10 system image backup

In Windows 10 or even Windows 11, you can still use Windows 7 Backup and Restore to create system image, which contains all drives required for Windows to run, additional drives are also optional. That is, you can use it to restore the operating system or the entire hard drive.

How to create a system image backup in Windows 10

1. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Backup > Go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7) > Create a system image. You can also find it in Control Panel.

2. Choose a destination for the system image, like external hard drive, DVD, network location (it’s not recommended to store it on the local drive). Then choose additional drives if necessary and follow the wizard to complete backup.

How to restore Windows 10 from system image

1. To access the option, you need to boot Windows 10 in recovery mode with installation disc, recovery USB, or after 3 failed boot-ups. Select your language and region, hit Next > Repair your computer.

2. Then choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Image Recovery.

If you want to restore windows 10 from an external hard drive, connect the device properly so that it can detect your system image.

3. Your latest system image backup will be displayed in the popping out window. If it's not the one you want, click Select a system image to locate it.

5. Confirm the operation and click Finish. Wait patiently till the restore process is complete.

Method 2. Restore Windows 10 backup to your PC or another PC

Create a backup in case of recovery needs

Launch the software, go to Backup tab and choose System Backup, the system partitions will be auto selected. You can specify a removable device to store it safely, and follow the wizard to complete the process. Create a system image

To create a system image for client computer, just log in AOMEI Cyber Backup, and add the Windows device that you want to backup. Then click Backup Task on the left menu bar and select Backup Task Create New Task.

Restore Windows 10 PC from backup
