Veeam instant recovery provides powerful support for organizations to recover virtual machines quickly. However, sometimes users may encounter “Veeam instant recovery not finalize” issue, which may affect the normal recovery and operation of the business.
Veeam instant recovery finalized is the last step of Veeam instant recovery, which includes various operations.
Tips: To check the progress of Instant Recovery and view session details: 1. Open the Home view. 2. In the inventory pane, click the Instant Recovery node. 3. Right-click the VM in the working area and select Properties. Alternatively, you can open the History view, select the Instant Recovery node under Restore in the inventory pane and double-click the necessary instant restore session.
After the VMs have been successfully recovered, you must finalize the process. For this, test the recovered VMs and decide whether to migrate them to production environment or stop publishing.
Step 1. Testing Recovered VM
Before migrating the recovered VM to production, you can open the VM console in Veeam Backup & Replication. You can also test the recovered VM in the VMware vSphere client.
To open a VM console in Veeam Backup & Replication:
1. Open the Home view.
2. In the inventory pane, select the Instant Recovery node.
3. In the working area, right-click the VM and select Open VM console.
Step 2. Migrating Recovered VM
To migrate a recovered VM to the production environment:
1. Open the Home view.
2. In the inventory pane, select the Instant Recovery node.
3. In the working area, right-click the VM and select Migrate to production. Veeam Backup & Replication will launch the Quick Migration wizard.
During migration, Veeam Backup & Replication will restore the VM from the backup file and additionally move all changes that were made while the VM was running from the backup in the Instant Recovery mode.
✍Note: When you pass though the Quick Migration wizard, if you don't need the recovery source files anymore, you can enable the Delete source VM files upon successful migration option. Veeam Backup & Replication will restore the VM to production and automatically stop the Instant VM recovery session. If you do not enable this option, the Instant VM recovery session will still be running, and you will need to unpublish the recovered VM manually.
Step 3. Stop Publishing Recovered VM
After migration, if you don't need the recovery source files anymore, you can unpublish the recovered VM. If you have enabled the Delete source VM files upon successful migration option in the Quick Migration settings, the VM will be unpublished automatically.
After you unpublish the VM, the Instant Recovery session will end and the recovered VM will be unmounted from the vPower NFS server. The migrated VM will remain on the production environment. Note that all changes made in the recovered VM after migration will be lost.
To unpublish a recovered VM:
1. Open the Home view.
2. In the inventory pane, select the Instant Recovery node.
3. In the working area, right-click the VM and select Stop publishing.
While creating snapshots enables instant VM recovery, relying on snapshots is a dangerous operation. It can affect VM performance, and even lead to severe data loss. Therefore, creating independent VM backups is still essential, and cannot be easily replaced by snapshots.
Here I introduce you to a free instant recovery software -- AOMEI Cyber Backup. It allows you to centrally manage VMs, create backup schedules and perform instant recovery.
Click the following button to download the freeware.
*You can choose to install this VM backup software on either Windows or Linux system.
Note: * The instant restore feature is applicable to backup points of ESXi virtual machines. AOMEI Cyber Backup must be installed on Windows Server 2012 or higher versions of the operating system. * The backup points of the virtual machine must be stored on the local disk.
Step 1. Create VMware ESXi VMs Backup and then start VM instant recovery.
Step 2. Create New Instant Recovery as following:
✔ Click "Task" > "Instant Recovery" > "New Instant Recovery". Here we take "Restore from task" for an example.
