"Tones" Tab not showing up in "library" section of iTunes. (not on iPhone)
Hi! So, I am trying to make a new ringtone for my iPhone, But the "tones" tab won't come up in the library section. This has nothing to do with my phone, just iTunes. I can't even sync music + tones from the summary tab on my phone because the section is grayed out. Where is the tones tab in iTunes? Please help!
- Question from Apple Community
iTunes, a digital media playback app and free app for Mac and PC, is released on January 10, 2001. It can be used to manage and backup iPhone data, like music, photos, etc. In iTunes 12.7 for Mac and PC, Apple not only removed the Tones feature but also removed “Apps” feature and focus on music, movies, TV shows, products, and audiobooks.
That is to say, iTunes changes its regime, and then you can’t see Tones and Apps in iTunes 12.7 Library and its later versions, which can’t be fixed. Apple recommends you use Sounds Settings to redownload the tones without your PC.
Of course, if your iTunes is 12.6 or earlier version but Tones is not showing, you can go to “Preferences” > “General” and check whether the “Tones” box is checked. If not, check it and you can see the Tones tab in iTunes Library.
To check the iTunes version, you can run it on your computer, then go to Help > About iTunes and then you can see the version of your iTunes.
Now, you have figured out why Tones not showing in iTunes. We can fix it if the iTunes is 12.6 or earlier version and then we can sync iTunes playlist to iPhone or iPad. But how can we send tones to iPhone/iPad when iTunes is 12.7 or later version and we have tones in old iTunes library?
Don’t worry, it’s easy to transfer tones/ringtones to iPhone or iPad even without iTunes! You can use email to send the ringtone wirelessly, or choose AOMEI FoneBackup mentioned in third part to finish the process at a super-fast speed.
Step 1. Locate the tones/ringtones on your computer and choose the ones that you want to transfer and right-click them.
To find out the files of the tones/ringtones in the previous iTunes Library, Go to C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\ on Windows or go to /Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Tones/on Mac to find out tones/ringtones.
Step 2. Choose “Send to” and choose to send an email to yourself.
After you receive the email on your iPhone, you can download and save the acceded tones/ringtones.
When you can't find your tones in iTunes, how can you do to easily sync multiple audio files from PC to iPhone or vice versa? Here we recommend a handy iPhone data transfer tool - AOMEI FoneBackup for you to finish the process right now!
