How to recover data when internal hard drive won’t boot

The basis for recovering internal hard drive data with software and built-in tools is that the hard disk can be booted. If the internal hard drive cant boot, you can switch to using a hard drive enclosure which is a box to put the hard drive into a working computer.  It needs to connect to the computer with USB, FireWire, and eSATA ports.

Step 1. Buy an enclosure that fits your internal hard drive.

Step 2. Connect it to your computer, and the computer will detect it as a normal external storage device.

Step 3. Copy the internal hard drive data to the computer, and select a path to store them.

Sometimes, after you connect the unbootable internal hard drive to the computer and you find it can’t be detected on the computer in Windows Explorer. This issue occurs might the drive letter of the hard drive partition is lost. You can make it shows again by following these steps:

Step 1. Tap Windows + R, and then type diskmgmt.msc in the search bar and click Enter.

Step 2. Find the partition that lost the drive letter, and select Change drive letter and path....

Step 3.  Click Add and assign a drive letter, and then the lost partition will appear again.
