Scenario

I have an HP DV6 3030SP laptop, just upgraded to Windows 10 after 100% compatibility shown by the app. Now, I change my mind about Windows and I want to rollback to Windows 7. The problem now is that the "Go back to windows 7" is missing (it was there earlier). What can I do to go back? I installed Windows 10 this Monday, only 3 days ago hence I'm still in the grace period. Thank you.

Go Backup to Windows 7 Missing

Reason for Go back to Windows 7 missing

As you may know that there is an option for you to downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7 if you upgraded to Windows 10. If you are not satisfied with Windows 10, this option allows you to backup back to the previous versions. However, when you open the Settings APP and go to Recovery, you may find that Go back to Windows 7 option is missing.

If Windows 10 rollback option is missing, it’s usually because the rollback period has passed or because you accidentally deleted the folders with older version of Windows. If you backed up Windows.old folder or Windows 7, you can use the backup to go back to Windows 7. If not, you may find other solutions to revert back to Windows 7.

How to go downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7?

Besides restore from Windows.old folder or system image backup, you can still try the following solutions to downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7 after 30 days.

Restore to factory settings

Certain computers come with media that allows you to restore it to original factory settings and previous operating system that the machine came with. For example, Acer computer has embedded with Acer eRecovery Management; Asus has its built-in program – Asus One Key System Recovery; Lenovo comes with Lenovo OneKey Recovery; HP has equipped with HP Backup and Recovery Manager. If your computer has this media, you can restore to factory settings.

If you decide to use this solution, you should bear in mind that this process will delete all files from your computer, therefore be sure to create a disk backup.

Note: Some brand computers do not have built-in tools to restore to factory settings. Therefore, this solution isn’t available for all computers.

Reinstall the previous version of Windows

Maybe the most straightforward solution is to reinstall the version of Windows that you were previously using. You may need to download installation media if you do not have one. Then follow the steps below to reinstall Windows 7.

1. Boot from the Windows 7 DVD or USB device and wait for Windows 7 Setup to finish loading.

2. Choose Language and Other Preferences.

3. Click the Install now button and wait for Windows 7 Setup to begin.

5. Set the advanced drive options and choose a location to install Windows 7 on. Then wait for the process done.

Reinstalling Windows 7 isn’t always the best solution because it will delete all the files from your C drive.
