Backupper WinPE Cannot Recognize NVME drives

AOMEI Post By AOMEI Updated July 19, 2024

If you boot from the AOMEI Backupper boot disk and find that the NVME disk is not recognized, the possible reason is that there is no IRST driver in the boot disk, which prevents the NVME disk from being listed in the software. In this case, you need to recreate the boot disk and add the IRST driver. Here are the detailed operation steps.

Add Drivers Automatically

1. We recommend using your own recovery environment to create the boot disk, so please do not check the option to download the WinPE creation environment., as shown in the following picture:

Download WinPE

Note: If this option cannot be unchecked, then it means your current system's recovery environment is damaged. To fix the recovery environment, please install "Windows ADK" and "Windows PE add-on for the ADK" according to your Windows version. You could download ADK and WinPE add-on from here

2. The program will automatically detect the network card and hard disk drivers installed in the current system and prompt to add, please check the Intel RST driver in order to recognize the drive.

Add Drivers Manually

If the software does not detect or automatically integrate IRST driver, you need to add the driver manually. Here are the steps to find and add IRST driver.

1. Right-click This PC-->Manage-->Device Manager-->Storage controller, right-click "Intel Chipset SATA/PCIe Optane Controller", and select "Properties".

Properties

2. Click Driver-->Driver Details to view driver files.

Driver Details

3. Search for the file iaStorAC.sys in C partition. Find the result with the DriverStore directory and right-click "Open file location".

Open File Location

4. You will see all driver related files are in this "iastorac.inf_amd64_3cbddcc68b1c0da2" folder.

*.cat: A digitally-signed catalog file can be used as a digital signature for an arbitrary collection of files. A catalog file contains a collection of cryptographic hashes, or thumbprints. Each thumbprint corresponds to a file that is included in the collection.

*.inf: A setup information file is a text file in a driver package that contains all of the information that device installation components use to install a driver package on a device.

*.sys: Driver image file

*.dll: Driver library file

Driver Folder

5. Copy this folder to another location, such as the Desktop (this is to help you find the folder location quickly). Then add the driver in the Backupper boot disk creation interface.

Add Drivers 1

Add Drivers 2

6. Select the inf file and click "OK".

iastorac

Add Drivers OK

7. When you see this prompt, the addition is successful:

Driver Added

If you find the above method a bit troublesome, you can also use tools to export the driver. Here is how to use Win10XPE to export the driver.

1) Download Win10XPE from here: https://mega.nz/file/gCI3HZxI#COgl8GYTSDS3jor0Ym3dQ2M1kBpAocIZbX25ML0xBWA

2) Extract the contents of the 7z package to any location and run Win10XPE.exe.

3) Click "Build Core"-->"Export":

Export Drivers

4) All drivers for the current computer will be listed in categories:

Driver Category

5) The driver you need is in the "Storage controller" folder:

IRST Drivers

Load Drivers

Write in the front: If your boot disk has been able to successfully recognize the drive in the previous step, then you can ignore this part.

If the disk is still not listed after adding the corresponding driver, it may be that the driver is not loaded automatically (for example, in the picture below, only one local disk is listed). You need to run the drvload command to load the driver manually.

Drive Not Listed

1. Click Backup-->File Backup-->Add File to view the files.

Add File

2. The driver files are in virtual disk Boot (X:).

Boot X

3. Find the folder starting with iastorac in "X:\Windows\System32\Driver Store\FileRepository".

File Repository

4. Copy it to the root directory of drive X and rename it "driver".

Copy Folder

5. Click Tools-->Windows shell command.

Windows Shell Command

6. Run the command: drvload X:\driver\iaStorAC.inf

Drvload Command

7. Click "Reload".

Reload Disks

8. After that, you will see all drives are listed successfully:

All Drives Listed

Note: If you are trying to create a boot disk for another computer but can't export or find the driver, you can try to download the driver from this site: https://winraid.level1techs.com/c/important-drivers/
