How to Perform Instant Restore of Virtual Machines with AOMEI Cyber Backup

Instant Restore means that after a disaster occurs, the backed-up virtual machines and their business systems can be restored in a very short time (usually within seconds), thereby minimizing the time of business interruption and ensuring business continuity.

How to Perform Instant Restore of Virtual Machines

Prerequisites for instant restore:

  • Computer with AOMEI Cyber Backup installed
  • VMware ESXi backups created by AOMEI Cyber Backup

1. Click "Task" on the left menu bar, choose "Instant Restore" and click "Create New Instant Restore". Here we take "Restore from task" for an example.

2. Click "Select" to select the Source.

3. Choose VM and version.

4. Click "Select" to select the virtual machine.

5. Choose the virtual machine and backup version.

6. Select the device to be restored to in "Restore to".

7. Choose the target device.

8. Set the hardware settings for the new virtual machine, such as CPU quantity, CPU Cores and memory size.

9. Set name for the new virtual machine.

10. Click "Start Restore" to start the instant restore.

Summary

After the restoration is successful, you can see the restored virtual machine in the VMware ESXi console. After the virtual machine boots successfully, it will be in the previous state.

Notes:

The Instant Restore feature is only available for ESXi VM backups and the following conditions must be met to utilize this feature:

1. Operating System Requirements: AOMEI Cyber Backup must be installed on Windows Server 2012 and above.

2. Storage Requirements: The backup files of the virtual machine must be stored on a local disk.

3. Version Requirements: ESXi VM backup tasks must be created based on AOMEI Cyber Backup version 3.7.0 and later.
